SQUARE Talks #12: Lina Zedriga – Joint Episode with «Ohne Senf»

Gast in Episode zwölf von SQUARE Talks ist Dr. Lina Zedriga,
Juristin, Menschenrechtsaktivistin und Vizepräsidentin der
National Unity Platform Ugandas. Das Gespräch entstand in
Kooperation mit dem St.Gallen-Collegium-Podcast «Ohne Senf» und
wird von Collegium-Fellow Wolfram Eilenberger moderiert. Der
Philosoph spricht mit Lina Zedriga über die tiefgreifenden
Komplexitäten des Freiheitsbegriffs, insbesondere im Kontext
Ugandas, das trotz seiner Unabhängigkeit seit 1962 weiterhin
unter massiver politischer Repression und systemischer
Ungerechtigkeit leidet. Anhand ihrer persönlichen Geschichte
beleuchtet Lina Zedriga die erschütternden Realitäten, mit denen
regimekritische Stimmen in Uganda konfrontiert sind, wo Regierung
und Militär die Opposition systematisch unterdrücken. Doch die
Politikerin hebt auch die zentrale Bedeutung kollektiver
Resilienz sowie die beständige Hoffnung auf eine gerechtere
Zukunft hervor.


Das Gespräch wurde in Englisch geführt und am 1. Oktober 2025 im
Rahmen von Lina Zedrigas Aufenthalt als Personality in Residence
am SQUARE der Universität St.Gallen aufgezeichnet.

The guest in episode twelve of SQUARE Talks is Dr Lina Zedriga,
lawyer, human rights activist, and vice-president of Uganda's
National Unity Platform. The conversation happened in cooperation
with the St. Gallen Collegium podcast ‘Ohne Senf’ and is
moderated by Collegium Fellow and philosopher Wolfram
Eilenberger. Together, they discuss the profound complexities of
the concept of freedom, particularly in the context of Uganda,
which, despite its independence since 1962, continues to suffer
from massive political repression and systemic injustice. Drawing
on her personal history, Lina Zedriga sheds light on the
harrowing realities faced by dissidents in Uganda, where the
government and military systematically suppress the opposition.
However, she also emphasises the central importance of collective
resilience and the enduring hope for a more just future.


The conversation was conducted in English and recorded on 1
October 2025 as part of Lina Zedriga's residency as Personality
in Residence at SQUARE at the University of St.Gallen.
