Doyle Owens is an insurance agent in Scottsboro, Alabama. His daily
life is quiet, but he has a special eye for opportunities. One day,
a bus driver friend tells him that there are many abandoned
suitcases in Washington, D.C. Owens becomes curious and contacts a
bus company. With just $300 and a borrowed pickup, Owens buys his
first load of lost bags. He brings them home and starts selling the
contents on folding tables. Word about his little business spreads
quickly. Owens realizes that this idea has potential and founds the
Unclaimed Baggage Center. Over time, the business grows larger.
Airlines form partnerships, and Owens soon processes over 7,000 new
items daily. Over the years, an astonishing collection accumulates.
Among the finds are Egyptian artifacts, a violin from 1772, and
even a puppet from the movie 'Labyrinth.' Today, the museum is a
popular destination and shows more than 100 unique objects. Those
visiting the Unclaimed Baggage Center discover evidence of
forgotten journeys. At first glance, you might only see an old
suitcase. But with a keen eye, you quickly notice: sometimes, what
is lost is full of new opportunities.
