In this episode of the Brawn Body Health and Fitness
Podcast, Dan is joined by Scott Stansbury to discuss the
importance of care collaboration between providers and
disciplines as it relates to athletics and performance.
A native of Westminster, Md., Scott Stansbury was hired by the
Baltimore Orioles in December, 2021 to serve as the Minor League
Medical Coordinator, responsible for overseeing the delivery of
athletic training and medical services to the minor league
affiliates and to supervise a full time staff of 13 athletic
trainers and physical therapists, along with 6 seasonal athletic
trainers. Prior to that, he was previously hired by his alma
mater, Salisbury University, to serve as its head athletic
trainer in July 2021, succeeding his mentor and serving as the
third head athletic trainer in the history of Salisbury
University. At Salisbury, he was responsible for the healthcare
of all of SU's athletics programs and had oversight for a staff
of 7 certified athletic trainers to support the success of
Salisbury's athletic teams. Prior to returning to Salisbury, he
was an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Notre
Dame, joining that staff in July 2007. His responsibilities there
included work with the baseball and football programs. He earned
a bachelor's degree in physical education/athletic training from
Salisbury in 2003 and then attended Villanova University,
graduating in 2005 with a master's degree in education. As a
graduate assistant in sports medicine at VU from 2003-2005, he
was responsible for overseeing the healthcare for both the
Wildcats' baseball and men's soccer programs. In 2005, Stansbury
was employed as a NovaCare Rehabilitation athletic trainer at
Villanova until 2007. During that time, he was responsible for
the healthcare of the VU women's soccer, baseball, and men's
lacrosse programs. His experiences also include some extensive
experience with Team USA Baseball. In 2013, he worked with USA
Baseball's 14U & 17U National Team Development Programs
(NTDP). Then, in 2014, he was selected to be the head athletic
trainer for the 2014 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, which
represented the United States in international baseball
competition. That summer included trips to the Netherlands and
Cuba as part of the Collegiate Team's summer tour. That team
finished with an overall record of 18-8-2. In 2016, Stansbury was
the head athletic trainer for USA Baseball's 15U National Team,
competing in the WBSC 15U 'AA' World Cup in Iwaki, Japan. That
team won the bronze medal after defeating Panama in the bronze
medal game. He is board certified through the NATABOC and is an
active member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association, the
Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society, and other local
athletic training organizations.
