A powerful conversation with Adrienne Bender as she shares her
children’s stories, her journey through loss, and the strength it
takes to keep living with purpose and love.
In this heartfelt episode of Chatting with Betsy, host Betsy Wurzel
speaks with author, Registered Nurse, and grief recovery specialist
Adrienne Bender about her courageous path through unimaginable loss
and the resilience that shaped her into the woman she is today.
Adrienne became a single mother at seventeen when her son Kyler was
born.
She worked tirelessly to build a future—putting herself
through college, becoming a Registered Nurse, marrying, and
welcoming her daughter Mackenzie. But her life took heartbreaking
turns as she faced Mackenzie’s battle with AML leukemia and Kyler’s
struggle with addiction. Adrienne shares these stories with
honesty, love, and deep reflection. Betsy and Adrienne discuss the
impact illness has on the entire family and the emotional toll of
losing both of her children and her father in such a short
time.
Adrienne also served as a caregiver for her grandfather, giving
listeners a raw and real view of how caregiving and grief shape a
family’s life. A central theme of their conversation is emotional
truth—acknowledging feelings rather than numbing them through
unhealthy coping habits. Adrienne emphasizes that healing begins
with honesty and compassion toward ourselves. Adrienne continues to
honor Kyler and Mackenzie through joyful traditions: placing treats
in their Christmas stockings, celebrating their birthdays with
massages and dinners, and keeping their memories alive through
stories and love. This deeply emotional episode is dedicated to
Kyler and Mackenzie, whose lives continue to inspire strength and
resilience.

Discover how understanding economics can empower everyday
Americans. Howard Yaruss joins Betsy Wurzel to explain inflation,
Social Security, Medicare, and the financial myths shaping our
daily lives.
In this enlightening episode of Chatting with Betsy, host Betsy
Wurzel talks with Howard Yaruss — economist, professor, attorney,
businessman, and author of Understandable Economics. Howard breaks
down how our economic system works in simple, practical terms that
every American can understand. Together, they explore some of the
biggest myths in today’s conversations about money, including
whether Social Security and Medicare are really “running out of
money,” why inflation happens, and what causes shrinkflation.
Howard explains why billionaire Warren Buffett pays a lower tax
rate than his secretary, how recessions develop, how national debt
works, and why consumer spending is the true engine of job
creation. Howard believes economic literacy gives people real power
to understand policies that affect their daily lives. As he notes,
“Our politicians work for us — we are their employers.” Betsy
shares that Understandable Economics is the first economics book
she has ever read, and she found it eye-opening and easy to
understand.
Betsy highly recommends it for anyone — high school and up — who
wants to understand the world around them in clear, everyday
language. Learn more about Howard Yaruss, his book, and his work at
his website or on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Greater
understanding leads to greater empowerment — start learning how
economics shapes your daily life.

What if dementia care could be guided by love and knowledge — not
fear? Dr. Ethelle Lord joins Betsy Wurzel to share how education is
changing caregiving forever.
In this enlightening episode of Chatting with Betsy, host Betsy
Wurzel speaks with Dr. Ethelle Lord, founder of the International
Caregivers Association (ICA) and a pioneer in transforming how
dementia care is taught and delivered worldwide. Betsy and Dr. Lord
share their personal caregiving journeys and the deep love that
continues long after loss. Dr. Lord discusses her mission to
empower family caregivers, professionals, and organizations through
compassion, training, and advocacy — helping them understand the
human side of dementia.
She introduces her groundbreaking Transactional Dementia
Intelligence (TDI) Business Model of Dementia Care (SM) — a
holistic system that blends education, coaching, and care across
home and facility environments. This approach helps caregivers and
staff move beyond routine care toward meaningful connection and
empathy.
Together, Betsy and Dr. Lord explore the importance of caregiver
education and the positive impact it has on both caregivers and
their loved ones. They discuss how validation and understanding can
prevent agitation, reduce stress, and restore dignity for
individuals living with dementia. Dr. Lord also highlights the role
of prevention — through healthy eating, regular exercise, and
avoiding smoking, alcohol, and drugs — as part of overall brain
health.
She introduces a fascinating “voice scan” test, a promising tool
for detecting early signs of Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and other
conditions. This conversation is filled with hope, insight, and
inspiration. How Dr. Ethelle Lord Is Transforming Dementia Care
reminds every listener that true change begins with education,
empathy, and the courage to see caregiving as both an art and a
mission.

A stolen painting. A survivor’s courage. A thief’s redemption.
Betsy and author Bill Frisco explore how truth and love can outlast
hate and history.
In this episode of Chatting with Betsy, host Betsy Wurzel speaks
with Bill Frisco, author of Every Day Is Like Sunday: The Silent
Re-Looting of Art Stolen by the Nazis. Their heartfelt conversation
explores how a chance meeting at the Jersey Shore in 1985 inspired
a story of stolen Jewish artwork, justice, and redemption.
Betsy and Bill dive into the heart of Every Day Is Like Sunday, a
gripping tale that follows a stolen painting and the people forever
changed by its history. Though written as historical fiction on his
attorney’s advice, Bill explains that real events appear
throughout—blending fact and imagination to reveal timeless truths
about conscience and courage. Listeners meet Roy Kean, a skilled
thief, and Lily Braun, a Holocaust survivor determined to reclaim
her murdered family’s stolen art. Roy, moved by Lily’s faith and
bravery, risks everything to right a decades-old wrong.
Together, they embody the struggle to confront the past and restore
dignity to lives shattered by hatred. Bill shares how visiting
Auschwitz during his research transformed his perspective and
strengthened his commitment to honoring truth through storytelling.
Betsy calls the book a page-turner that unites history, emotion,
and moral reflection. As a Jewish-Christian, she found Lily’s
strength deeply personal—an enduring reminder of resilience and the
human spirit. “This story stays with you,” Betsy says. “It reminds
us that love and justice can still triumph over darkness.”
About the Author
Bill Frisco, a first-time novelist, grew up in the storied Fishtown
section of Philadelphia and was educated in the Catholic
Archdiocese school system.
