Tattoos and Piercings as Self-Harm? Round 2 feat Lucia & Talon

Last year we recorded an episode based on an email that Sara
received from a loved one of someone with BPD. Today we're giving
some additional thoughts from Lucia, someone with BPD and body
modifications, and Talon, who was a professional piercer for many
years.

PREVIOUS EPISODE CONTEXT: In this episode of the podcast, Laurie
and Sara explore the idea of body modifications and BPD after a
DM that a parent of an adult with BPD sent Sara stating the
following:

"Hi Sara! So cool to see how life is evolving for you! As a mom I
am having some trouble with radically accepting my 24!yr. old
kid’s fourth (not small) tattoo. I remind myself that it’s not my
journey /nor my body/ and yet it's hard to shake the feeling that
some of this is a form of distraction for dysregulated or at
least high anxiety.. again not my pain either. As a mom I am
pained by the feeling that there will be regret with healing and
recovery. I know you have surface embellishments as well and can
see how these don’t impede your happiness. I hope for this for my
loved one."
