I've had some amazing conversations with people who inspire me
and bring value to my life during the course of this podcast. In
these "Best Of" editions, I'm bringing those conversations back
to life for your listening pleasure.

In this episode, I speak with a number of people whom I consider
a mentor in one way or another, and have taught me, or reminded
me of many of the principles I have been developing and living by
over the years.

Luke Leaman starts the conversation with an explanation of the
autonomic nervous system, and why it is important to understand
how that works.

Simon Hall then picks up the conversation with his take on why
looking after your physical and mental health is more important
than anything else you will do, and how that needs to tie in with
your value system.

Andrew Pap and I discuss how our identity has been shaped by
working in the fitness industry, how we've dealt with injuries,
growing businesses, prioritising our mental and physical health,
and time management strategies we are currently
implementing.

Next up, Danny Lennon talks to me about his experience working
with weight class athletes, common misconceptions in the combat
sports diet industry, and how the metabolism will adapt in a
negative manner when exposed to dieting measures for prolonged
periods.

We round out the episode with Luke Leaman again, who dives into
stress physiology, and the importance of gut health to ensure a
healthy organism. A healthy organism is an adaptive
organism.

"I shouldn’t be in the position I am right now."

The odds were stacked against me:

Poor family on welfare, eldest of 6 kids, parents didn’t work,
abusive step-dad, no electricity or running water for a 6 years
period of my life

Caught up with the wrong crowd, stealing, drugs, skipping
school

At 14 years old, I sat on a bus for 3 days with $50 in my
pocket, to travel to the next State over West, to begin a new
life in the workforce - 2000

14 - 20: I grew up and learned how to become a man through work
and rugby
20 - 26: I lived, trained and fought as a professional soldier,
at a high level
26 - 32: I became a personal trainer, after failing in my pursuit
to become a firefighter
32 - 38: I worked with, and won world titles with some of the
best athletes on the planet, as their strength and conditioning
coach
