Although based on the technical definition, any person who
changes their name and is then called by their former name is
being deadnamed, the term deadnaming is not applicable for cis
people. That's because it is known as a specifically harmful act
towards people who are under the trans umbrella.


Deadnaming is generally perpetrated by cis people, and rarely
does a cis person's former name invoke the same level of pain or
discomfort.
