1567 Is Jealousy Interfering with Your Parenting?

How unfair is it when your child always runs to the other
parent? To you, their relationship appears better than yours. Is
jealousy interfering with your parenting? 


Most parents won't admit that they can become jealous of the
other one. But think about it. We get jealous when a co-worker or
friend gets something we want.

Why wouldn't we get jealous when our child wants to spend time
with anyone but ourselves?


I believe we do get jealous. And if we aren't careful, jealousy
becomes the given factor which determines how we interact with
our child.


Think about what you do when your child comes to you and asks for
something (i.e., spending the night, iTunes card, money, etc.).
How quickly do you say "yes"?


Now you might think you are looking at if it works in the budget,
with your schedule, but what about subconsciously?


Most of us want to be the ones our children run to.


And when they don't, our feelings are hurt. We get a bit
defensive. We make decisions based on how "happy" our children
will be when we give them what they want.


Is jealousy interfering with your parenting?


If there is any part of you that says possibly, then firm up your
foundation with your child.

When you focus on what you are doing as a parent, you won't have
time to be jealous of the other parent.


How can you firm up your foundation with your child?
Communicate admiration in love and respect. Praise the
character of your child, not his/her performance. Build trust
through consistency. "What you do for your child counts.
