1616 When Can I Retire As A Parent?

There are days you wish you could change your name. No
more mama! "When can I retire as a parent?"

mentally drained.

All you do is give, give, give. And then when you're challenged
again, you give, give, give.


Raising children and guiding them through the stages of their
life can be exhausting to the psyche. And then when you pile up
life and your dreams, no wonder you feel like you're on a
different planet.


This week has been a LONG week. My attention has been pulled in
all directions. A few hiccups in my "plans" for what I wanted to
accomplish.


You know when you're just tired. You don't even know why. But
tired is the only thing that keeps you thinking, even though
you're worn out.


Nothing makes sense. You're spinning your wheels.


In a brief moment, I blurted out, "When can I retire as a
parent?".


My children quickly chimed in. "Never!!! You never get to not be
a parent. You have to be around for a long time."


Now at first, that response was very flattering. However, when
you think about it more with an emotionally-drained spirit, it
doesn't seem fair.


Why do I have to parent always?


Now granted, the stages of life will change. Therefore, your
parenting style and how you interact with your child will evolve.


Bottom line. You're still a parent!


So when you are feeling like it's time to retire, what can you do
to dig yourself out of the pit?
The K.I.S.S. ~ Know that you are called!

Being a parent is a gift. I said this before I was one, and I say
it now as one.


We are given a gift. We are called to be a parent, whether it's
by accident or choice.


You are called.


So when you desire to retire a gift that can't be returned, what
do you do?
Know that what you have is what is required.
We sell ourselves short on comparison. You don't need to show up as
anyone, but YOU! Know that this too shall pass.
Life has seasons. Praise the Lord! The season that you're in will
pass. Know that you don't have to have all the
answers. God has gone before you to prepare a way. This in
itself is very freeing.

Know that you are called!


So when those days are long and drawn out, God's got you!
