TITLE: Walking in the dark, in the desert has the power to empower
beyond all the city lights. DATE: Tuesday, January 19th 2021 HERE’S
THE STORY: Got up 3 am - decided to stay up knowing another hour of
sleep would have probably messed me up more than serving me.
Started my walk at 440 am dark as hell. As I walked I realized
while I could not see beyond 20 feet in any direction clearly what
matters was the light in front of me. In the dark in the desert
beyond what I could see was really irrelevant. What matters was the
light from my flashlight - the path infront of me and my goal. To
walk, move my body and start my day off from a place of power.
Another idea came to mind - as I was walking knowing I could not
control beyond what I saw - I considered what I did have control
of. - I knew my path - I had a light - I had a back up light - I
had a ruck full of rocks ( not sure that would serve me outside
reminding me I choose the weight I carry in life ) - I had my knife
- I had my phone - I had the key to the house I had been in the
dark before, rucking in the military, Warrior week, in the dark
mentally in business, as a husband, father, friend.... The dark is
no fucking stranger and yet - its been a while since I walked in it
literally for 45 minutes. The point is - I know what I know, I know
what I have, I know my mission - beyond what I can literally see is
out of my control so gotta rise up and focus on the ground in front
of me.... ... because thats all that fucking matters. WHY IS THIS
RELEVANT: We talk about the dark all the time - finding the light
in the dark. It’s powerful to walk in it. As I was walking off to
the left was nothing but desert off to the right was about 200
yards of desert between me and the homes by the beach. I was
tempted to take a turn walking next to the houses but I wanted the
lesson. As I turned back I saw the lights of the city and thought
how comforting it would be to walk there. I considered how so many
are pulled towards the lights.... That feeling of wanting to be
where everyone else is and yet - I was more alive walking in the
desert with nothing but what I needed. LESSON: Walking in the dark,
in the desert has the power to empower beyond all the city lights.
