I recently went through a difficult upheaval where I had to move
my family in a short amount of time.  The stress from that
situation could have sent me into a tailspin.  Instead, I
channeled my energy into my inner health and focused on the
things that needed to get done.

There are some major factors when you're learning to cope with
something that could be very negative.  First thing is you
need to gain some control of the situation.  

The key here is that you can only control your response to it,
not whether the situation happens.

It helped me a lot to make lists to keep track of what needed to
get done.  I ended up with - wait for it - 38 lists! 
Each week had its own lists, tasks separated in my planner, so I
could keep track of what was happening, nothing was left out, and
everything was done.

Another thing I could control was my self care.  I made sure
to relax, put my feet up, take long warm showers, and binge watch
some new shows.  I made sure that we had real meals prepared
rather than living on takeout for those 3 weeks of
upheaval.

The other thing that you can control is your reaction to things
and your emotions.  Of course I was in shock, cried a lot
the night I got the news, but I was quick to shift into
action.     

That said, it's okay to grieve.  It's okay, and necessary,
to go through all the stages of grief when you suffer a
loss.  But, you can cycle through those quite quickly when
you are in control of your own emotions.

As I was unpacking my boxes, I was sorting my desk and my
files.  I created positive emotions around my new space and
I'm choosing to focus on those.  I acknowledge and
recognized the negative emotions, but I didn't let them derail
me.

Today, I want you to look at what you're dealing with.  Is
it a money issue, an employment issue, a family issue?  How
are you going to control the situation?  What reactions are
you choosing?  How are you going to use your emotions to
propel you through the change?
