In episode 9 of the Tech & teaching Podcast, Eric and Jordan
dive into the streaming software: Wirecast. When Taylor started
Striv 10 years ago, we tried different softwares—IBM's Ustream,
Teradek's Cube, & more. And Wirecast became the best option
to serve our schools. NOTE: this is NOT a Wirecast vs. OBS
comparison video. Tune in and listen to the 12 reasons what the
Striv guys like about Wirecast and how this software is set
apart. Whether it's about the functional performance
(layer-based, user-specific, ease-of-use) or the technical
aspects (replay, output, inputs, audio mapping)—Wirecast may be
the best software you use for your live stream! Be sure to shop
Striv AV for your hardware AND software needs, and check out our
Wirecast Studio & Pro offerings!

In episode 8 of the Tech & Teaching Podcast, Jordan &
Eric dive into the WHAT, HOW, and WHY around computer hardware
and specs. Get ready to nerd out!
Jordan says, “If you get a computer with an Apple Silicon
Processor in it, you’re good to go. It doesn’t matter if it is
the M1 or the M2 or the super ultra max pro. YOU’RE GOOD!”
You can stream on the MacBook Air—which is incredible to
think about. BUT if you are going to be streaming in a warm
environment, you may want to upgrade to the MacBook Pro for the
built-in fans. Depending on your streaming setup, the Mac Mini
may be a great and more affordable option, too!
If you’re in the PC world, the Intel processor you need for
streaming is at the minimum an i5 but preferably an i7. Stay away
from low-power processors, WE WANT HIGH POWER ALL THE TIME! Don’t
skimp on GB of RAM, just get the 16GB. For graphics cards, 4GB is
the middle ground and worth it. Don’t forget the ethernet port,
and by the way, a gaming laptop would work well for streaming
(but be sure to look at the processor & RAM)!
