In this episode, Daniel Hammes from the DKF Basel sits
down with Christina Huf, Switzerland’s European Correspondent
(EuCo) for ECRIN, to explore how Swiss researchers can
successfully run multinational clinical trials.
Together, they dive into the role and structure of
ECRIN, a European, non‑profit research
infrastructure connecting 13 member countries and more than 130
Clinical Trial Units across Europe. Christina explains the
typical challenges Swiss investigators face—such as fragmented
regulatory requirements, differing ethics procedures, language
barriers, and complex international contracting.
The episode explains how ECRIN strengthens Horizon Europe
proposals through realistic country selection, solid budgeting,
and well‑developed clinical trial work packages. It also outlines
the role of the Swiss EuCo, which advises early in proposal
development and supports operational coordination throughout a
study’s lifecycle. Researchers learn when to reach out, what
costs to expect, and how ECRIN services fit into Horizon Europe
budget planning. The podcast further shows how the SCTO and Swiss
CTUs collaborate with ECRIN to ensure high‑quality study conduct
in Switzerland.
