This week on NEWS.MC TV, brings you the latest from the
Principality — a mix of solemn moments, sporting triumphs, and
historic milestones.
His Serene Highness Prince Albert II travelled to Leipzig,
Germany, on April 17th to mark the 20th anniversary of the
Foundation for Post-Conflict Development. The event underscored
Monaco’s long-standing commitment to peace-building and
international cooperation, with the Prince’s presence lending
gravitas to the ceremony.
In a gesture of international solidarity, Monaco has pledged
humanitarian aid to Burma in the wake of a catastrophic
7.7-magnitude earthquake that claimed over 3,500 lives and left
thousands injured. The announcement came on April 17th,
reaffirming the Principality’s role in responding to global
crises with both compassion and action.
April 17th was also a day of celebration at the State Ministry,
where medal-winning athletes and coaches from Special Olympics
Monaco were honoured for their stellar performance at the World
Winter Games in Turin. The reception recognised not just athletic
excellence but the enduring spirit of inclusion and perseverance.
Diplomatic ties were strengthened on April 18th during the
General Assembly of the Association of Honorary Consuls of Monaco
(ACHM), held at the Hôtel Hermitage. The event welcomed two new
honorary members and featured the presence of Interim Minister of
State Isabelle Berro-Amadei alongside other senior officials.
Easter Sunday in Monaco was marked by joy, tradition, and the
unmistakable sound of church bells ringing across the
Principality. A 42-cannon salute from Fort Antoine added pomp to
a holiday deeply rooted in cultural and spiritual reflection.
In a sombre turn, the world received heartbreaking news on Easter
Monday, April 21st, with the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis
at the age of 88. Tributes have poured in globally for a Pontiff
known for humility, reform, and a deeply human approach to the
papacy.
Meanwhile, relations between Monaco and the Sovereign Military
Order of Malta deepened during a historic 48-hour visit from
Grand Master Fra’ John Dunlap on April 22nd. The visit included
high-level meetings and signalled a strengthened partnership on
humanitarian initiatives.
In the realm of healthcare, the Princess Grace Hospital Centre
continues its modernisation with the opening of Le Belvédère, a
state-of-the-art transfusion centre. Inaugurated by Prince Albert
II, the facility marks a significant leap forward in Monaco’s
medical infrastructure.
On the court, the Roca Team roared to a resounding 97-80 victory
over FC Barcelona in their EuroLeague quarter-final opener on
home turf. The dominant performance puts them firmly in the race
for a spot in the Final Four.
This week, our special guest is Joël Bouzou, President and
Founder of “Peace and Sport.” In an exclusive interview, he
discusses how sport can be a transformative tool for
peace-building, Monaco’s unique leadership in this field, and the
global impact of grassroots sports diplomacy.
