This week on NEWS.MC TV: Monaco's leadership on climate,
diplomacy, and innovation takes centre stage.
Monaco’s commitment to a more sustainable future was in the
spotlight as the Green Shift Festival returned for its third
edition on June 5. Launched by the Prince Albert II of Monaco
Foundation, the event celebrated creativity as a catalyst for
ecological transition, bringing together thinkers, artists and
activists to explore how culture can power climate action.
The Principality also showcased its growing impact on the
international stage with the release of Monaco’s Department of
International Cooperation’s 2022–2024 strategic report on June 6.
The report revealed that Monaco’s aid initiatives directly
reached 3.5 million people worldwide, underlining its strong
commitment to global solidarity and sustainable development.
Innovation took to the seas on June 6 with the official launch of
the Malizia Explorer, a state-of-the-art climate research
sailboat. Designed to monitor the effects of climate change on
the oceans, the Malizia Explorer is a joint initiative supported
by the Prince Albert II Foundation and Team Malizia. It will play
a critical role in advancing marine science and awareness across
the globe.
In a historic moment for diplomatic relations, President Emmanuel
Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron paid a landmark state visit
to Monaco on June 7 and 8 — the first by a French President in
over 40 years. The visit was marked by official ceremonies,
cultural exchanges, and high-level discussions that reaffirmed
the enduring Franco-Monegasque alliance.
This strengthened relationship was further cemented by the
signing of a new amendment to the 1963 customs agreement between
France and Monaco, modernising their cooperation to better
reflect current economic and regulatory frameworks.
Monaco also took centre stage in global marine governance as it
hosted the Blue Economy and Finance Forum on June 7 and 8 at the
Grimaldi Forum. The event served as a curtain-raiser to the
United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, offering a platform for
financial and political leaders to discuss how to fund a
sustainable ocean economy.
Meanwhile in Nice, world leaders convened for the third United
Nations Ocean Conference, where H.S.H. Prince Albert II joined
heads of state in urging immediate action to save the oceans.
Among the milestones announced was the implementation of the
long-awaited UN High Seas Treaty.
Back home in the arena, Monaco’s Roca Team delivered a
show-stopping finish to their playoff series against Asvel,
coming back from 15 points down in the fourth quarter to win
91–86. Scoring the final 20 points unanswered, the team sealed
the series 3–1 and advanced to the Betclic Elite final where
they’ll face off against Paris.
This week’s exclusive interview features Laurent Anselmi,
President of the Monaco Academy of the Sea (A2M). He joins us to
discuss Monaco’s strategic role in ocean diplomacy, the evolution
of the Blue Economy, and how education and leadership are shaping
the next generation of ocean advocates.
Stay tuned for more updates from Monaco — where diplomacy,
science, and sport come together to shape the future.
