Hirn gehört - Folge 50 - „Drei Modell-Organismen und unzählige Forschungsfragen“ mit Prof. Dr. Jörg Albert

Prof. Dr. Jörg Albert ist seit 2023 Professor für
„Sinnesphysiologie und Verhalten“ an der Fakultät VI Medizin und
Gesundheitswissenschaften der Universität Oldenburg.


Als Sinnesbiologe kombiniert er in seiner Forschung Kenntnisse
und Methoden nicht nur aus dieser Disziplin, sondern auch aus
Physik, Chemie, Neurosensorik, Genetik und Mathematik. Bei den
Modell-Organismen, mit denen er experimentiert, heißt es: „Je
mehr Beine, desto besser“, denn das sind Fruchtfliegen, Mücken
und Spinnen.


Jörg Albert widmet sich mit großer Leidenschaft dem Ziel, die
mechanische Funktionsweise des Hörsinns und seine Auswirkung auf
das Verhalten von Insekten zu verstehen und daraus
Schlussfolgerungen - auch für das menschliche Gehirn -
abzuleiten.

Prof. Dr. Jörg Albert has been Professor of “Sensory Physiology
and Behavior” at the Faculty VI Medicine and Health Sciences at
the University of Oldenburg since 2023.


As a sensory biologist, his research integrates methods and
knowledge across various disciplines, including zoology,
neuroscience, genetics, chemistry, physics and mathematics. The
model organisms his lab uses, generally adhere to the principle
of "the more legs, the better", because these are fruit flies,
mosquitoes and spiders.


Jörg Albert aims to understand how the sense of hearing works and
how it impacts the behavior of insects, in order to draw
conclusions also for humans.
