In this episode, we speak with Joe Petrowski, Runtime Lead at the
Web3 Foundation, where we dive into the advantages and challenges
of building on Polkadot. Joe shares his thoughts on the benefits
of Polkadot's multi-chain architecture and the hurdles developers
face when integrating various chains. Throughout our discussion,
Joe highlights the importance of improving developer tooling and
user experience to make building on Polkadot easier and more
efficient.
Additionally, we discuss Plaza, a visionary new plan introduced
by Rob Habermeier, co-founder of Polkadot. Plaza aims to
consolidate the functionality of Polkadot into a single,
highly-scalable system chain, acting as a hub for users,
developers, liquidity, and applications. Unlike the current
fragmented system where different chains handle different
functionalities (like wallets, apps, and user coordination),
Plaza seeks to bring everything under one roof, vastly
simplifying the user experience and cutting costs.
What’s particularly exciting is how Plaza will leverage
Polkadot’s scaling capabilities to handle thousands of
transactions per second today and potentially hundreds of
millions of transactions per day in the future. This means better
performance for developers and users alike, all without
compromising on decentralization. How is decentralization not
compromised? Engineering advances like NOMT, Optimistic
Concurrency Control, and ZK Merkle Proving will allow Plaza to
perform efficiently with normal machines, ensuring accessibility
for full nodes without requiring supercomputers.
