There are many examples for us in scripture but I want to start
with two verses in Proverbs 18.


Proverbs 18:20,21


A man's stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his
mouth; from the produce of his lips he shall be filled. 


Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who
love it will eat its fruit.


From there God took me to James chapter 3.


James 3:1, 3-10


My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that
we shall receive a stricter judgment. 


Indeed, we put bits in horses mouths that they may obey us,
and we turn their whole body. 


Look also at ships although they are large and are driven by
fierce winds, they are turned by very small rudder wherever the
pilot desires.


Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.
See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 


And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is
so set among
I also use Mark 11:22-24

So Jesus answered and said to them, "Have faith in God. For
assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, Be
removed and be cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his
heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he
will have whatever he says.
Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray,
believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
I continue the lesson from Mark 11 by going
back to when Jesus cursed the fig tree.

Mark 11:12-14

Now the next day, when they had come out of Bethany, He was
hungry. And seeing afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see
if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He
found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. In
response, Jesus said to it, "Let no one eat fruit from you ever
again." And His disciples heard it.
