Proper muscle function and joint alignment reduces stress on the
body and helps to enhance performance. However, due to repetitive
movement patterns, injury, or a sedentary lifestyle, dysfunction
may occur in the upper extremities and trunk. When this happens,
muscle balance, muscle recruitment, or joint motion may become
altered, leading to changes in structural alignment, neuromuscular
control, and optimal movement patterns. This session will introduce
the common upper extremity movement impairments that can be
identified with a variety of loaded and dynamic movement
assessments. We will also address the common causes of the
impairments, and strategies to correct the movement patterns.
