In this conversation, we speak with Australian emergency
physician Dr. Ben Mckenzie. Ben has developed the AMAx4 algorithm
as a streamlined approach to recognising and treating anaphylaxis
after the tragic death of his 15-year-old son Max Mckenzie. Ben
has helped standardise best practices for this life-threatening
emergency. Promptly following the AMAx4 steps is vital for
patient survival in the initial minutes of anaphylaxis until
emergency medical services arrive.

Anaphylaxis is a severe, potentially fatal allergic reaction that
requires prompt adrenaline to optimise survival outcomes. AMAx4
emphasises key steps that should be taken as soon as anaphylaxis
is identified. The simplified, structured sequence helps reduce
treatment delays, improves outcomes, and has been endorsed by
major allergy organisations as an evidence-based protocol.

*** Please note, that you should adhere to local guidelines and
protocols and remain compliant to these when practising
pre-hospital care. Only practice the above algorithm with the
support of your institution.'
