Tuesday, 13 April 2021, 7 – 8pm A roundtable discussion with Eoin
McNamee, Catherine Ryan Howard, & Dr. Eva Burke. This event is
presented by the School of English and the Trinity Long Room Hub.
What does it mean to write fiction inspired by true-life crime? How
does the literary imagination engage with, and transform, real-life
tragic events? Can fiction tell us things about true crime that
nonfiction can’t? Is it ethical to re-imagine actual crimes for
fictional purposes? What is it about particular crimes that
inspires fictionalisation? These are the questions raised in this
fascinating roundtable discussion, part of the 2021 School of
English Online Evening Lectures Series ‘Murder & Other Fine
Arts: True Crime & Literature.’ Featuring Eoin McNamee (author
of Resurrection Man, 12:23, and The Blue Tango), Catherine Ryan
Howard (author of The Liar’s Girl, Rewind, and The Nothing Man) and
Dr. Eva Burke (Trinity College Dublin, author of articles on crime
fiction and domestic noir). Learn more at:
