Thursday, 3 February 2022, 7 – 8pm In recent years, there has been
a disturbing trend toward authoritarianism in the Global South. For
this event, three panellists will describe the factors that led to
its rise in Brazil, India, and the Philippines and assess the
forces of resistance in each country. They will argue that far from
being a coincidence, authoritarianism's rise in different locales
has emerged out of a global crisis of neoliberalism. A panel
discussion organised by Trinity's Centre for Resistance Studies and
supported by the Trinity Long Room Hub. Speakers: Cecilia Pe Lero,
University of São Paulo Cecilia Pe Lero was a post-doctoral fellow
at the Centro de Estudos da Metrópole at the University of São

University of Notre Dame. Fabio Luis Barbosa dos Santos, Federal
