Resistance Studies in partnership with the Trinity Long Room Hub.
Antoon De Baets is Emeritus Professor of History, Ethics and Human
Rights at the University of Groningen, and coordinator of the
Network of Concerned Historians. He has worked extensively on
academic freedom, censorship and abuses of history, and the ethical
implications of writing history. Professor De Baets' lecture
explores the various strategies historians have developed to resist
attacks on - and abuses of - their profession. It will provide an
analysis of the repertoires of resistance historians adopted in
dictatorships and will reflect on the possibilities of safeguarding
