Electric Harmonics of Consciousness - Andrés Gómez Emilsson, Qualia Research Institute

What is the dividing line between the feeling of sitting in a
fluorescently lit cubicle vs flying down the Gold Coast, sea foam
in your hair and music in your ears? Obviously almost everything,
but where is the root of the subjective emotional experience, the
qualia, come from? Andrés Gómez Emilsson, director of research at
the Qualia Research Institute, suggests that it lives in the
harmonic patterns of the brain. Enjoyable experiences can be
understood as consonant resonances, negative ones as dissonant,
disorganized ones. He and his colleagues are working on a
mathematical model of experience - both the mundane and the
transcendent, as they are informed in their work by the
hyperbolic geometry of DMT and other psychedelic substances. The
goal, at the end of the day, is to create a functional map of
human experience so complete that it can help eliminate
unnecessary suffering.
