This interview does not need an introduction - especially if you
are from New Jersey. I was super excited to chat with Benny
Horowitz because some of my favorite stories to hear from the NJ
music scene are about The Gaslight Anthem's New Brunswick days.
We covered a lot of ground inside of this hour window. Benny has
been in a ton of projects, even when Gaslight was fully rolling.
He talked about his days of working at a Rutgers newspaper and
not having a perminant home to lay his head during the beginning
of his career. There were a lot of nights of eating pizza in a
hotel room. Horowitz also discussed an offer to keep stats for
the NBA when Gaslight was taking off and having a decision to
make - he obviously picked the music path, without hesitation,
but had a friend in his ear who believed he was making the wrong
decision. There's an epic conversation about musician's using
their platform to get a message out, and how Horowitz feel some
of his decisions are even more important now that he has kids.
Horowitz tells a fun story about a date night with wife. We
talked the return of Gaslight and Horowitz releases some of his
favorite deepcuts.
