The great grappling art moved strategically through Brazil
towards North America, propelled by ambition and a drive to be
successful. The schools were just accessible enough to permit a
rush of middleclass students in South America and a select few
Hollywood celebrities in California. There was little other
motion other than raise attention through combative efficiency in
challenge fights, reinforcing the art’s dictum; a message that
would be shouted far and wide across martial arts
subculture...

This episode the Clubb Chimera Martial Arts podcast dives into
the world of ground-fighting. At the beginning of the 20th
century it was viewed with disdain by the martial arts world by
the century's end Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a martial art that focused
on submitting opponents on the ground, had become a worldwide
sensation. Part I of "The Way of the Shark" looks at why
ground-fighting was despised and how that view allowed it to
become a secret weapon in the unarmed duel.
