In this episode, we continue our series on genetics/epigenetics
and precision medicine to optimize the human system.
This series includes interviews with Aperion founders Dr. Dan
Stickler and Dr. Mickra Hamilton, genetics panel creators David
Krantz (endocannabinoids) and Andrea Lahti (neurotransmitters),
and today’s guest and Apeiron medical provider Ryan Lester.
Ryan is a healthcare provider on the forefront of the rapidly
evolving field of health optimization and human longevity.
Ryan also knows how to have fun. Here are some of his favorite
fun activities::
-Talking all things health optimization and longevity
-Watching and playing sports
-Learning how to learn
-Teaching
-Playing with children and dogs
-Listening to music
-Watching live music
-Watching movies
-Laughing with friends
-Hiking and experiencing nature
-Pushing myself physically
-Training for a physical goal
-Traveling to new places
We have six powerful mantras from the interview.
Mantra #1: Recognize words in the vocabulary of the evolved
health provider: “spiritual” and “soul” are examples
Mantra #2: Focus on the four pillars for optimal epigenetic
interventions (links provided by Kathryn based on recent blogs
and info)
1) sleep
2) stress (this blog is about spiritual practices to manage
stress)
3) nutrition
4) exercise
Mantra #3: Incorporate genetic data to allow for customization of
supplements, peptides and more precision interventions
Mantra #4: Look at the right data points before making a
pharmaceutical intervention (our discussion on cholesterol and
looking at 1) LDL particle number, 2) APO-B, which is a proxy for
LDL particle number, and 3) Lp (a).
Mantra #5: Start early when it comes to precision medicine (Ryan
recommended individuals in their early 20s); traditional panels
could be catching symptoms over a decade too late
Mantra #6: Start with each individual’s goals for precision
medicine (what is their “why”).
