Dietmar Rothermund: "Indiens Moderne - India's Modernity."

 Christoph Burgmer im Gespräch mit Dietmar Rothermund. Der
deutsche Historiker und Indologe Dietmar Rothermund (1933-2020)
gilt als der Begründer der sozialwissenschaftlichen Indologie und
besetzte den ersten deutschen Lehrstuhl zur Geschichte Südasiens
in Heidelberg (seit 1968 bis 2001). In dem Gespräch setzt er sich
mit der kontroversen Geschichte Indiens im 20. Jahrhundert
auseinander und gibt einen Einblick auf die indische
Lebenswirklichkeit. Die größte Demokratie der Welt droht an den
inneren Widersprüchen zu zerbrechen. Das Gespräch wurde 2006 in
Heidelberg geführt.


/ Christoph Burgmer in conversation with Dietmar Rothermund. The
German historian and Indologist Dietmar Rothermund (1933-2020) is
considered the founder of social science Indology and held the
first German chair for the history of South Asia in Heidelberg
(from 1968 to 2001). In this interview, he will discuss the
controversial history of India in the 20th century and provide an
insight into the realities of life in India. The world's largest
democracy is in danger of collapsing due to internal
contradictions. The interview was conducted in Heidelberg in
2006.
