“He is the God of comfort and the ultimate comfort is the hope we
have for our future.” Today we continue our Moms in the Bible
Series as Stacy talks with Pat Kenney, the Moms in Prayer North
East Division Coordinator. Listen in as she shares
hope for the brokenhearted, through looking at Mary, the mother
of Jesus.
About our Guest:
Pat Kenney is the Northeast Division Coordinator of Moms in
Prayer (MIP) International. She has been praying for her
children/granddaughter and schools through MIP since her
daughters were in elementary school. Pat is married to her
college sweetheart and has three adult daughters, one ‘son in
love’ and an adorable granddaughter. She enjoys tennis, art,
gardening and developing an abiding presence in God through His
Word. Her ‘sweet spot’ is equipping moms to pray powerfully for
their children and schools.
Scripture:
Scriptures on Mary found in Luke 1-2
Psalm 34:18 (NLT) The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he
rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
Luke 2:19 (NIV) But Mary treasured up all these things and
pondered them in her heart.
Luke 2: 25-35 (NLT) At that time there was a man in Jerusalem
named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting
for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was
upon him and had revealed to him that he would not die until
he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. That day the Spirit led him
to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby
Jesus to the Lord as the law required, Simeon was there. He
took the child in his arms and praised God, saying, “Sovereign
Lord, now let your servant die in peace, as you have promised. I
have seen your salvation, which you have prepared for all
people.
He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory
of your people Israel!” Jesus’ parents were amazed at what was
being said about him. Then Simeon blessed them, and he said
to Mary, the baby’s mother, “This child is destined to cause many
in Israel to fall, and many others to rise. He has been sent as a
sign from God, but many will oppose him. As a result, the
deepest thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword
will pierce your very soul.”
John 19:25-27 (NLT) Standing near the
cross were Jesus’ mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary (the wife
of Clopas), and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother
standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to
her, “Dear woman, here is your son.” And he said to
this disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from then on
this disciple took her into his home.
Acts 1:14 (NLT) They all met together and were constantly united
in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other
women, and the brothers of Jesus.
Psalm 28:7 (NIV) The Lord is my strength and my
shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart
leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) So do not fear, for I am with you; do not
be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold
you with my righteous right hand.
