Scripture:
Scripture on Tamar found in Genesis 38
Scripture on Rahab found in Joshua 2 and 6
Genesis 38:26a (NLT) Judah recognized them immediately and said,
“She is more righteous than I am, because I didn’t arrange for
her to marry my son
Shelah.”
Joshua 2:8-14 (ESV) Before the men lay down, she came up to them
on the roof and said to the men, “I know that the Lord has given
you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and
that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you. For we
have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea before
you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings
of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom
you devoted to destruction. And as soon as we heard it, our
hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of
you, for the Lord your God, he is God in the heavens above and on
the earth beneath. Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that,
as I have dealt kindly with you, you also will deal kindly with
my father's house, and give me a sure sign that you will save
alive my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who
belong to them, and deliver our lives from death.” And the men
said to her, “Our life for yours even to death! If you do not
tell this business of ours, then when the Lord gives us the land
we will deal kindly and faithfully with you.”
Psalm 78:35 (NKJV) Then they remembered that God was their rock,
that God Most High was their redeemer.
Isaiah 43:1 (NIV) Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have
summoned you by name; you are mine.
Isaiah 61:3 (NKJV) To console those who mourn in Zion, To give
them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment
of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called
trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be
glorified.”
Luke 7:36-50 (ESV) One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with
him, and he went into the Pharisee's house and reclined at table.
And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner,
when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee's
house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, and standing
behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with
her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his
feet and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee
who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man
were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman
this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.” And Jesus
answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.”
And he answered, “Say it, Teacher.”
“A certain moneylender had two debtors. One owed five hundred
denarii, and the other fifty. When they could not pay, he
cancelled the debt of both. Now which of them will love him
more?” Simon answered, “The one, I suppose, for whom he cancelled
the larger debt.” And he said to him, “You have judged rightly.”
Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, “Do you see this
woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet,
but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her
hair. You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has
not ceased to kiss my feet. You did not anoint my head with oil,
but she has anointed my feet with ointment. Therefore I tell you,
her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he
who is forgiven little, loves little.” And he said to her, “Your
sins are forgiven.” Then those who were at table with him began
to say among[a] themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives
sins?” And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in
peace.”
John 8:36 (NIV) So if the Son sets you free, you will be free
indeed.
1 John 1:9 (NIV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just
and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all
unrighteousness.
