In 2017, the US Supreme Court is preparing to take up transgender
rights for the first time in history, ruling on the question of
whether transgender students are entitled to use bathrooms matching
their gender identity. While the issue has only recently ignited a
political firestorm across the country, transgender author Lee
Schubert has dealt with an inner battle surrounding public
restrooms throughout her life. In this show, Transcender Lee shares
the details and questions raised in her book, Woman
Incognito.
TOPICS INCLUDE:
* Why Lee has chosen not to change her body to make it more
female
* What it means to really know who you are
* Gender, class, religion, race, sexual orientation and age – can
we really transcend the stereotypes and cultural conditioning that
society imposes upon us telling us who we are, and how we should
think and behave?
* And what would happen if we did?
* And more…
About the Guest: Lee Schubert
Lee Schubert is the author of Woman Incognito: Transsexual without
Transition, and a transsexual woman with a lifelong interest in
both religion and politics. Active in both areas, she is on a
mission to transcend boundaries of gender, race, religion, class,
and sexual orientation. As a woman in a male body, Schubert has
discovered that gender is not determined by physical sex, and has
no interest in changing her body to make it appear more
female—unlike most of the male-to-female transsexuals seen in the
media.
Schubert holds two degrees in English and has acquired additional
education in finance, religion, radio communications, and
philanthropic studies. Her background includes involvement in
numerous religious and political organizations. She has gained a
deep appreciation of the diversity of human experience and
encourages others to join in her mission to transcend traditional
societal boundaries that confine and separate us unnecessarily. She
lives with her wife in Morristown, New Jersey.
