The Making Of A Publishing Legend with Judy Piatkus

passion, believe in yourself, and the success and the money will
follow.” If there were a competition for a poster child for that
approach to life and living, there’s little doubt that Judy Piatkus
would rank highly among the contestants.

Judy Piatkus is a publishing legend. In 1979, she founded what
would become a global publishing brand— Piatkus Books —from her
spare bedroom. A single-mother with a child with learning
disabilities at a time when being a self-made woman entrepreneur
was rare, Judy defied expectations, influencing, shaping, and
giving rise to the cultural and professional perception of personal
growth and development publishing. Long before the bestseller
charts were packed with mind/body/spirit, business, and
relationship books, Judy created a platform for new voices and
leading authorities and experts in their fields, including
internationally bestselling authors Jon Kabat-Zinn, Mary Berry,
David Allen and Brian L. Weiss.

Judy Piatkus joins Sandie this week to talk about her memoir, Ahead
of Her Time – How a One-Woman Startup Became a Global Publishing
Brand, which provides fascinating insights into building a company
and brand identity, her learning experiences as an entrepreneur,
the triumps and pitfalls, what worked and what didn’t, how it felt
to overcome obstacles to build the career she wanted from the
ground up, as a truly self-made woman… and much more.



Judy Piatkus is an entrepreneur, publisher and business coach
specialising in conscious leadership. She founded Piatkus Books
when she was in her 20s and grew the company to become an
international brand, before selling it in 2007, just before the
global financial crash that she had shrewdly foreseen. She is now a
keynote speaker and a coach and mentor to start-ups. In 2011 she
founded Conscious Cafe, a network that brings people together for
conscious connection and discussion.
