originated within the horse-racing context. People would bet on a
horse they were so sure of winning, they'd attach the phrase, "it
came from the horse's mouth." 


One thing I do know is that the phrase does carry the idea, that

lead them. Remember, they are half of the equation. You are one
half and they are the other.
