Spotify has announced that almost 600 people (6%)
will be laid off. Daniel Ek announced in a memo that
Chief Content Officer Dawn Ostroff is to leave the company; "Alex
[Norström] will take on the responsibility for the
content, advertising and licensing work going forward".

The number of new podcasts has dramatically dropped by 80% in
two years, according to data reported this week. Except… as we
explore today in a deep-dive article, that data point doesn’t
tell the whole story. In fact, podcasting is in a much better
place.

Buzzsprout has announced a podcast subscription tool. You can
choose from recurring support, or premium content only available
to your supporters; the company takes a fee of 15%. The Podnews
Weekly Review has added the opportunity to become a PoWeR
supporter if you’d like to see it at work.
