Joining me today to talk about the exercise cornerstone called
Footwork is my friend and colleague, Susannah Cotrone, co-owner
of Cotrone Pilates in Los Angeles who has her own take on the
power of Footwork. When I was going through the certification
program with Romana Kryzanowska in 1994, she told us that the
Reformer workout always began with Footwork because Joe, while
developing his method, created Footwork to help straighten his
bowed legs. But he had other ideas as to how Footwork would be
beneficial for the body. As we know, he was interested in the
body’s full transformation and the Chinese Healing Arts came into
play. It’s reported that Joe’s intention of infusing reflexology
into the Footwork exercises meant that by massaging the various
points in the feet, the internal organs would be stimulated.
Additionally, Romana’s view of Footwork was that we could find it
throughout the system, no matter which apparatus.
