In this episode of Postcards,three-time we have a very special
guest the three time Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Good
Neighbors.  Langan was also one of the judges for the
inaugural Shirley Jackson Award and is currently on the Board of
Directors.  She got her MFA in creative writing from
Columbia University, and also received her Master’s in
Environmental Health Science/Toxicology from New York University.
She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and daughters.

In this wide-ranging interview, we chat about writing horror as a
woman, dodging the sexist and misogynist tropes of the genre, the
writing of her debut novel the Keeper, being put in writer jail
despite numerous awards, and a deep dive into her new novel Good
Neighbors.

Good Neighbors resists tight genre distinction but if you really
want to know what it is I would call it a horror social satire of
suburban culture. Like a modern re-telling of the classic
Twilight Zone episode, The Monsters are Due on Maple Street
Langan updates the concept by replacing the cold with climate
change.  Laced with thriller elements this novel lends
itself to a deep discussion as it is a fine work of social
commentary. I suggest you read it first but there is still much
to get from this novel.
