Rio Youers is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors, and a
writer I  love to chat with about craft. His newest novel is
No Second Chances,  an action in a novel form much like his
last novel Lola on Fire which we  talked about in episode of
40 of this podcast. If you want Rio’s origin  story that is
in that episode. No Second Chances and the last one Lola  on
Fire straight action and crime stories built entirely on the
power  and strength of the Rio Youers secret ingredient.
Characters. This  freaking Youers guy knows how to write
characters with complications  that we can still root
for.

In this episode we talk about Rio’s  gig adapting Owen and
Stephen King’s Sleeping Beauties, working with Joe  Hill on
a comic book project, developing this novel out of a failed
Lola novel, writing action, researching California, and the
importance  of characters in this novel.

Spoilers start at the 42-minute  mark. At that point, we
lift up the hood on No Second Chances for Rio’s  first
spoiler-heavy conversation on No Second Chances. So make sure you
read it first but there is plenty tips for writers!
