Ciaran Tully discussing the notion that 3D printers can solve the
social ills of the community; This view continues to support
Capitalism and has no understanding of the social relations that
determine society. He discusses how the proponents of this view
fail to explain how exactly the 3D printers can and will help
people buy food for example; 3D printers cannot print food.Scott
Jordan from Save the Tarkine in Tasmania; discussing the way the
governments (Labour and Liberal) have supported the mines over last
2 years. The mines have breached the orders from the courts and
from the EPA; despite this both the parties hang on to the tired
notion of creating jobs and economic growth (profit growth really).
He explains that tourism supports 10 times more jobs than the
mines; The destruction of the tourist industry is a huge problem.
The Tarkine is being considered as a heritage place by the world
heritage organiation. The mining companies certainly do not support
a sustainable future. Scott is also the Greens nominee for the
lower house in Tasmania Kevin Healy - Satirist Kishan
Kariipanan Lecturer in Anthropology sharing his experiences working
with the Aboriginal people of Australia in various locations. He
discusses how mobile phones and the internet are changing the
community, and sharing of information is occurring via social media
widely and awakening the community.
