Today we are going to swim in history. And the reason I am taking
this tack this morning is because all week in covid stay at home I
have been worrying over how we deal with the issues of inequality
and climate degradation after covid when clearly the strong arm of
big business influence on Government is in the ascendancy.Reading
Dr Liam Byrne's new book Becoming John Curtin and James Scullin the
making of the modern labor party I found some surprising ideas from
the past not least that the dominancy of monopoly power was not new
nor the tight hand of grasping business dressed up as the central
power in society. So first up we focus on Curtin and Scullin. We
follow that with the moraoturium because it isn't everyday that the
people win on such a scale and as Humphrey McQueen reminds us in
our final piece for the morning May 8th is the anniversary of the
Moraturium and I thought we should hear that faboulous Eureka
Dinner speech given by Joan Coxsedge our local Bodicea.
