Cheap electricity? 100% renewable? Reliable 24 hours a day, 365
days a year? That's what almost everyone wants. But not everyone
is prepared to accept the necessary consequences, such as a new
high-voltage power line on the outskirts of town or wind turbines
in the neighbourhood. Citizen protests and objections from
conservation groups to infrastructure expansion often slow down
the energy transition, and precious time is lost on the road to
climate neutrality. But why do we need new transmission
grids? Are there no alternatives? And how can social acceptance
of grid expansion be increased?
We talk about this in the latest episode with Antonella
Battaglini, the CEO of the Renewables Grid Initiative-RGI.
Timeline:
02:00 About The Renewables Grid Initiative (RGI). What is the
focus of it`s activities?
09:22 How can acceptance of new power lines be promoted among
citizens and local authorities?
15:39 What role does the cross-border exchange of electricity
in Europe play in a successful energy transition? What
advantages does it offer?
18:01 Where do we currently stand in terms of expanding and
connecting the transmission grids?
