Last week, President Obama authorized the deployment of about 100 special forces troops to Uganda and neighboring countries to help target senior leaders in the Lord’s Resistance Army, including Joseph Kony himself. The president said broad bipartisan support on this issue – from evangelical Christians to left-wing voters to human rights activists – is what spurred his administration to act in East Africa. We discuss the move with veteran Ugandan journalist Kisuule Magala Katende. Then, on Global Activism, we talk to Ahabwe Michael about his work in Uganda. His organization responds to socioeconomic challenges in his society like HIV/AIDS, high unemployment rates, insufficient health care, poor sanitation and famine.
