To play on a World Cup national soccer team, a player must be a citizen of that country. But most World Cup players don't regularly play in the nation of their World Cup team. Some hold dual citizenship. The U.S. team has several dual-nationals on its team- many are Americans recruited from abroad. It’s a phenomenon that isn’t unique to the U.S. team. We’ll discuss the issue with Michael Madero, assistant coach for the University of Chicago's men's soccer team. He joins us from Brazil. Jon Bohland, associate professor of political science and international studies at Hollins University will also tell us whether he thinks a player’s loyalty is ever in question.
Then, rock and roll has always found a home around the world; from South Africa and Argentina to Thailand and Iran. China is no exception. Even with tight state controls over many aspects of Chinese society there is a healthy rock music scene in the country, sometimes just under the radar of the censors. This week on our Global Notes segment, we introduce you to an American, John Yingling. He's spent the last year or so documenting China’s rock music scene; it’s part of a larger project that shines the spotlight on music from around the globe called The World Underground.
