In his book China’s Second Continent: How a Million Migrants are Building a New Empire in Africa, author Howard French explores how "China’s burgeoning presence in Africa is a developing empire that is already shaping, and reshaping, the future of millions of people." Howard French joins us to discuss China's growing role on the African continent. Then, Tony Corbo of the advocacy group Food & Water Watch, will give us some background on HIMP, an international meat inspection regime used by many countries around the world. This standard privatizes meat inspection and allows companies to use its own employees to inspect our meat. Corbo tells us why he thinks we’re headed in a dangerous direction.
