Narendra Modi, candidate for prime minister of India, has campaigned that because he’s a bachelor, he’s trustworthy. He’s said that since he doesn’t have a family, he has no good reason to steal public funds because he doesn’t have anyone to give them to. But an intrepid reporter has discovered that Modi is no bachelor and the story has made big headlines in Indi. Sumit Ganguly, a professor of political science and director of the Center on American and Global Security at Indiana University-Bloomington, joins us to discuss the scandal.

President Obama will visit Japan soon and must convince the Japanese government to sign onto the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Also, former President Jimmy Carter made news with a harsh public critique of Obama’s foreign policy philosophy. Security expert, Steve Clemons, is Washington editor at large for The Atlantic, editor of Atlantic Live and the blog, Washington Note. Clemons specializes in Japan history and policy and will join us to talk about Japans hesitance about the TPP and its contentious decision, three years after the Fukushima disaster, to restart its nuclear energy program.
