Protests continued on Monday in Caracas, Venezuela with opposition members blocking off parts of Caracas. Over the weekend hundreds of thousands of people also came out in support of President Nicolas Maduro. We'll examine the demands of both sides with David Smilde, a senior fellow at the Washington Office on Latin America.
Jack Newell heard a story on NPR’s Planet Money about what it costs to build a school in Haiti. Jack Newell decided he wanted to document the process and examine the impact of this kind of international aid on a country like Haiti. He joins us to discuss aid and development in Haiti and his documentary 'How to Build a School in Haiti'.
The Citizen Lab is a research watchdog group that investigates and tracks how governments use the internet and cyberspace to abuse human rights and restrict free speech. The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation recently gave The Citizen lab the “MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions." We’ll talk with Ron Deibert, director of The Citizen Lab. He calls his work “Hacktivism.”
