"Harambee" is a Kiswahili term that means "all pull together." When Kathleen Harrison gave her non-profit organization the name Project Harambee, she was hoping to pull a lot together in many little ways. For the past eight years, Harrison, a social activist and geneticist, has focused her energy on expanding health care to African families, particularly those affected by HIV. Through her "Grow a Doc" program, Harrison provides scholarships to medical school students in Kenya. She also spearheads community initiatives geared toward providing education, food and solar power to families in Kenya, Zambia, Uganda and Rwanda. Harrison joins us to talk about her latest projects.
