Art of Suffering Show Notes: Episode 20
For 2,000 years the Catholic Church has laid a foundation for its
members to find the narrow path that leads to heaven while also
pointing out the pitfalls of our fallen nature that can lead to
the wide path of perdition. Like, Jesus, it is both human and
divine, and its fallible members both lay and clergy are not
exempt from the pitfalls of imperfection. Human persons in the
Church are not free from committing personal sins that impact not
only themselves but those whom they encounter and serve. For the
first time, Sarah Mary Toce reveals how the hurts she experienced
from the human side of the Church could only be remedied,
redeemed, and transformed by the sanctifying grace that flows
from Her divine side.

Art of Suffering Show Notes: Episode 19
St. John Paul II states in Love and Responsibility, a blueprint
for Theology of the Body, that the true measure of love we have
for someone is the responsibility we are willing to take for
them. In fact, “Man cannot fully find himself except through a
sincere gift of himself “(Gaudium Et Spes). Dan and Emily Whiting
share how each of them grew in their humanity within their
courtship, engagement, and marriage and unite it to the three
revealed parts of our human nature our design, our desires, and
our destiny. Answering the three big questions each of us
discovers as we grow into adulthood. Why I am here? What is my
purpose? How can I be completely fulfilled in this life and
continue that fulfillment throughout eternity in the next?

Art of Suffering Show Notes: Episode 18
The Catholic Church is bleeding out young people by the droves.
Most millennials have not only abandoned the faith intellectually
by age 13 but often bring that internal decision to reality by
walking out within seven years of receiving the Sacrament of
Confirmation in their early 20’s. For the first time, Lauren
Hadden shares her journey to Christ that was found in embracing
her cross and finding freedom from the slavery of sins that had
previously governed her life when she was the one sitting on the
throne of her heart rather than Christ. As Matthew Kelly states
in his book, I heard God Laugh – “The secret to supreme happiness
is to strip away everything in your heart and set aside
everything in your life that makes you less available to God, and
then surrender yourself to His loving plan and cares.”

Art of Suffering Show Notes: Episode 17
Being a parent of any child in the world and culture we are
living in is really a challenge that can become one of the
greatest blessings if embraced. That truth is only magnified when
one becomes the parent of a child with any type of special need.
This is looking from the inside out as Brian Watkins, LEF Teacher
of the Year 2020, gives a parents perspective on how this dynamic
impacts them, their other children, and immediate family
emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically.

Art of Suffering Show Notes: Episode 16
One of the most crushing things that can happen in the process of
any pregnancy is an unexpected prenatal diagnosis of one’s unborn
child. All the excitement, celebration, and joy that is shared by
the couple and their extended family at the announcement of a new
life being brought into the world is suddenly overshadowed by
fear, anxiety, awkward social encounters with those who are
completely unaware of the internal state of mother, father, and
extended family all while wrestling with the reality of the
unknown that lies ahead. This was the journey of Dan and Emily
Whiting while awaiting the birth of their daughter Charlotte, one
that transformed them, their marriage, and everyone they
encountered.
