Richard Allen Davis is an American convicted murderer whose
criminal history played a key role in the push for California's
"three-strikes law" for repeat offenders, as well as the state's
involuntary civil commitment law for sex offenders and predators.
In 1996, he was found guilty of the first-degree murder of
12-year-old Polly Klaas, with special circumstances including
burglary, robbery, kidnapping, and attempting to commit a lewd act
on a child under 14.
