Episode 503: When women hedge (the bet determines the payout)

Women often tell me that the reason they aren't interested in
securing a long-term relationship in their 20s is because they
consider the development of their careers to be a necessary hedge
against being left in the lurch further down the road. However,
this is actually not a hedge: it is the primary bet. When women
hedge they leverage a relationship against the downside of their
work -- not the other way around. This isn't necessarily a
problem, as long as women understand that the bet determines the
payout.
