I still can't believe we are already a quarter of the way through
the 21st century!

During the past 25 years, there have been significant changes to
the auto industry, both in terms of technology, consumer
preferences, and car culture in general. While new car models
(and manufacturers!) are entering the market every year, many
older models that used to be the hottest thing on four wheels are
being mercilessly discontinued by the automakers. These cars were
so unique, exciting, and culturally important, that they left a
mark on automotive history, and are revered by those who were
fortunate enough to have owned or driven them. It genuinely
saddens me each time one of the more interesting car models get
axed, but what makes it worse is that they tend to be replaced by
generic egg-shaped blobs.

Today, we are kicking off a 3-part series on iconic cars that we
have lost over the first quarter of this century. This is a
celebration of automotive icons that are no longer in production,
and one can only hope: proud owners of these fine vehicles keep
great care of them, so their legacy may live on!
